Smarter Schools National Partnerships

Smarter Schools National Partnerships

Through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in November 2008 all States and Territories and the Commonwealth government agreed to work together on a set of Smarter Schools National Partnerships in schooling. The aim of the partnerships is to improve the quality of Australian schooling and student outcomes and support the achievement of the COAG Schooling Outcomes and Targets. Victoria’s approach to the Smarter Schools National Partnerships (NPs) aims to maximise opportunities for the government, Catholic and independent sectors to work together and collaborate on reforms under the NPs, and particularly to share information, best practice and learning. Importantly it provides flexibility for regions/dioceses, networks and schools to tailor their participation based on the local context and their needs.

In Victoria, the NPs are a partnership between the Australian Government, the State Government – the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) – and the government, Catholic and independent school sectors. Information on the Smarter Schools National Partnerships across the education sectors can be found on the DEECD website.

The Catholic Implementation Plan

The Catholic Implementation Plan (CIP) focuses on the Smarter Schools National Partnerships (NPs) comprising National Partnerships in Literacy and Numeracy, Low Socio-economic Status (SES) School Communities and Improving Teacher Quality. The CIP details the plans for implementation of significant reforms across a range of areas in Catholic schools in Victoria. These reforms are underpinned by evidence-based initiatives planned to support and promote improved practice in schools and outcomes for students.

Newsletters

The CECV publishes quarterly newsletters, commencing Term 3 2010, providing a snapshot of the range of Smarter Schools National Partnerships (SSNP) projects and activities occurring across the Victorian dioceses.  The newsletters highlight the Victorian Catholic sector’s collaborative approach to planning, implementation and evaluations of the of the SSNP initiatives in response to the national reform agenda.
